As part of the initiative to further enrich the work of Back on the Map, McCarthy Stone bought over £250 worth of goods to be included as part of the food parcels. Born out of the New Deal for Communities programme. The charity works to enhance the quality of life for people living and visiting Hendon and the East End of Sunderland.
Its most recent partnership with McCarthy Stone follows an earlier project involving Durham Wildlife Trust, which entailed creating bug hotels as part of a wider wildlife restoration project at Mowbray Park.
As the cost-of-living crisis continues to bite and more people find themselves unable to afford the Christmas they deserve for their families, the need for practical help through food parcels is expected to increase.
Joanne Cooper, Chief Executive of Back the Map, commented: “We can’t thank McCarthy Stone enough for their support and generosity. Using the food donations, we can ensure vulnerable families and elderly residents across Sunderland won’t have to go without.
“We understand Christmas is an expensive time for many, especially given the cost-of-living crisis, so it’s really important that communities rally together to support those most in need, so they can have the Christmas that they all deserve.”
Herriot Gardens homeowner, Thomas Robson, said:“It feels wonderful to play our part in supporting families and fellow retirees in and across Sunderland at such a special time of year. At Herriot Gardens, we truly appreciate the value of community spirit and we’re hoping we can spread some of that positivity to those who may be struggling in the run up to the festivities.”
Louise Flynn, Divisional Marketing Manager for McCarthy Stone, added: “Supporting and fostering links with the communities close to our developments is a key focus at McCarthy Stone and we are delighted to be able to support those most in need at a time of year that should be enjoyed by all, regardless of their circumstances. Back on the Map is a fantastic initiative that has made a significant impact to the community since its setup a decade ago, and we’re thrilled again, to be part of the action.”
