WANT TO HELP OLDER PEOPLE IN OLDHAM LIVE HAPPIER, HEALTHIER LIVES? GET INVOLVED IN THIS NEW COMMUNITY INITIATIVE.

Have you ever wanted to make a difference to members of your community, or, have a say on how funding gets distributed? Now is your chance to get involved. A new project has been created in Failsworth, Oldham which is seeking local people to become voluntary advisors. 

The Happier, Healthier Project aims to provide financial assistance to community groups that help to support the independence and wellbeing of older people in the area. Several donations will be made over the next 12 months, but the project needs local people to help decide where this financial support is best spent. 

Those selected to act as advisors for the Happier, Healthier project, will sit on a purposefully created committee alongside McCarthy Stone representatives that will ‘meet’ throughout the year discuss the range of services, groups and initiatives locally, that could benefit from a small cash injection that will go directly towards helping older people. 

Declan Fishwick, Business Development Manager at McCarthy Stone said: “While our Failsworth development is under construction, it is important to McCarthy Stone that we become an integrated part of the community and ensure we are investing in local groups and causes that align with our vision, which is supporting older people to live happier, healthier lives. 

“This development is the first of its kind in Oldham so we thought what better way to plan our community activities than to involve members of the public directly, so they can help us by highlighting some of the unsung heroes within the Oldham community where the funding could have the most positive difference to the lives of older people. Equally, this could be a fantastic way to build long-term relationships with the causes and groups themselves, which can be very fulfilling and rewarding too.”
