The local area

Living in Canterbury

The cathedral city of Canterbury is packed with history and heritage that's just waiting to be explored. The home of stunning architecture, world-famous buildings and even a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it's perhaps no wonder that many people are choosing to relocate to Canterbury to enjoy their golden years.

Canterbury's cobbled streets are packed with things to see, do and explore, making them perfect for any active retiree. Our development is located only 0.2 miles from Canterbury centre, and this new development of retirement properties in Canterbury will be in close proximity to a number of amenities, including a Waitrose supermarket, an NHS GP practice, a dentist, a Post Office and a hospital. All of these can be reached within 0.6 miles.

Canterbury is perfect for history lovers. Here you can see the shrine of Thomas Becket and tour the grounds of England's most famous cathedral. Alternatively, you can visit the Canterbury Tales Visitor Attraction where you can journey back over 500 years to learn more about Geoffrey Chaucer and his characters thanks to the attraction's live characters and entertaining audio guides. It's the perfect spot to learn about the city's rich literary history.

Elsewhere, you'll find a fantastic selection of local markets such as The Goods Shed, a permanent indoor farmers' market where you'll discover a wide range of independent food and drinks traders. Leading fashion is available at Whitefriars Shopping Centre, while traditional traders offering everything from jewellery to antiques can be found within the King's Mile collection of streets.

What's more, Canterbury also offers excellent local and national transport links that are ideal for day trips and for when family come to visit. There's a bus stop directly across from the development that provides access to Canterbury as well as Dover, Hythe, Folkestone and Aylesham. If you're driving, then you also have easy access to the M20, M2, A2 and A260, which connect with the M25 and the wider road network. You'll also have access to the channel port of Dover and the Eurotunnel at Cheriton. Finally, Canterbury also has a high speed rail service (HS1) to London St Pancras, with a journey time of under one hour.
