SURROUNDING AREAS

Although Hook is only a village, you’re close to the much larger Basingstoke, which is popular with shoppers and cultural enthusiasts. Festival Place is home to over 200 shops, and the town also has a number of parks, Basingstoke Aquadrome and the Milestones Museum.

Hook’s also a popular location because of the village’s great transport links. Hook has a mainline railway station that can take you directly to Basingstoke and London Waterloo. If you’re travelling by car, you’re close to the M30 and, if you want to travel internationally, Southampton Airport and London Heathrow Airport are both under 40 miles away.

If you like to explore, you’ll love the Basingstoke Canal, which winds through the idyllic countryside surrounding Hook. If you’d rather enjoy something a little more relaxing, you can even take a leisurely cruise down the canal or charter a private trip. For a great selection of beautiful canal-side walks, head to North Warnborough. For something a little different, you can also admire the beauty of Newnham, take a trip to Greywell, or visit Tylney Hall Country House Hotel and Gardens in Rotherwick.

COMMUNITY

Hook has a close-knit community of residents, and events are regularly held at the village’s two halls: Elizabeth Hall and the Community Centre. The village also has a number of local community groups that you can join, including a local theatre group and a ballroom dancing group.

The community also regularly gets together and hosts village events, so throughout the year you can enjoy the Hook Summer Fair, the Hook HSPA Fireworks Display and the Hook Flower and Produce Show.

THINGS TO DO

When you relocate to one of our retirement homes in Hook, you’ll be surrounded by things to see and do. Hook’s famous for its welcoming country pubs, so you’re never far from a good pint and a lovely beer garden.

Nearby, you’ll also find West Green House. The house itself is still a private residence, but you’re free to wander around the impressive gardens that were designed by Marylyn Abbott. They span for over 10 acres and you can expect to enjoy a lake, water features, a woodland glade and Victorian greenhouses.

You can also visit Odiham Castle on the Basingstoke Canal. It’s a 13th century ruin that showcases the best of the area’s history. Over the years, it has been everything from a hunting lodge to a royal residence, so there’s lots to explore.
