The team behind our retirement bungalows and apartments in Saffron Walden, Essex, are happy to donate lifesaving kit to local community.

Teams at our new over 60s retirement villages, Jacob Place and Edwin Gardens, in Essex, have donated a life-saving defibrillator to a vital community resource in the town, Saffron Walden Community Shed.

The donation is part of an ongoing partnership. McCarthy Stone donated £5,000 to the Shed earlier this year when it was forced to relocate into a Victorian, brick-built barn at The Old Granary. The vital funding enabled the team to revamp its new home and now they also have an Automated External Defibrillator installed.

The life-saving equipment will be easily accessible to the wider community in the case of a cardiac emergency. Members of the Saffron Walden Community Shed will also receive training on how to use the device.

Sam Watkins, Sales and Marketing Director at McCarthy Stone, says, “Supporting and engaging with the communities close to our developments is a key focus at McCarthy Stone and we are delighted to be able to donate this vital piece of equipment to Saffron Walden Community Shed, which has been a prominent feature in the community since its setup in 2018. Although we hope that the defibrillator is never required, it is reassuring to know that it could make a massive difference in the event of an emergency.”

Saffron Walden Community Shed Trustee, Peter Morrissey added: “We can’t thank McCarthy Stone enough for their support thus far, from helping us to transform the barn so we can continue our vital work in supporting local people to donating such a vital piece of equipment. The defibrillator means we can make members of the community feel safe and secure when enjoying the facilities that the Shed has to offer. It will also give our members peace of mind knowing that we have it on hand in case of emergencies.”
