Dear Me - A Letter To My 21-Year-Old Self
What lessons would you teach your younger self?
In the latest issue of our Life & Living magazine we asked three readers to go back in time and write a letter to their 21-year-old selves.
What guidance, help or comfort would they give themselves? Have age and wisdom changed everything they once believed, or are they still basically the same? Here’s Mary’s story…
P.S 'You will live to see a far kinder world'
Mary Jacob, 83, lives with her husband Jake in Solihull, West Midlands
When Mary married Jake at the age of 18, her family was horrified and refused to attend. The year was 1948, Mary was white and Jake was black, and the UK was a long way from being a multicultural society. Mary and Jake endured enormous difficulties, finding a place to live was virtually impossible, racial abuse a daily occurrence. But they worked hard and struggled on. Sixty-five years later, they are still happily married. So what advice would Mary give to her younger self...?
