Our approach to design

Design and construction

We give each development a character of its own by incorporating local design styles or by creating high quality showcase buildings. External grounds are fully landscaped. Internally, we make sure that every aspect of your apartment is built around your needs, from the layout of the rooms to the design of the kitchen worktops and bathrooms. It’s your home and it has to meet both your needs and your aspirations.

New features

We never stop trying to improve your experience and we listen to what our residents tell us, which is why the design and specification of our apartments are constantly evolving. New features available on brand new developments include:

  • Larger apartments.
  • More storage.
  • Walk in showers and en-suites available.
  • Extra toilets in some two bedroom apartments.
  • New fixtures and fittings throughout including inlaid oak doors.
  • Upgraded kitchens.
  • Improved energy efficiency.
  • More parking.
  • Wider communal corridors.
  • Enhanced landscaping.
  • Design innovation.

It’s important to us that you benefit from the best new thinking about Retirement Living developments. We trial many of the design features recommended by the Government’s HAPPI Panel (Housing our Ageing Population: Panel for Innovation). This includes providing more light and space through the introduction of atriums, open plan apartments and larger windows (subject to town planning controls). We’re also incorporating larger balconies, roof terraces and winter gardens wherever possible, so that you can enjoy being outside all year round.

Health and care innovation

We have our own Research Centre to explore, for example, how residents might benefit from the incorporation in our developments of the latest in health, care and lifestyle technology. This includes ideas such as giving you real-time public transport information and updates on local community activities - all in your own apartment.

The environment

You’ve created a positive legacy during your lifetime, and we want to do the same. That’s why we’re trying to make all new developments zero carbon from 2016 onwards.
