McCarthy Stones' Retirement Living development in the popular market town of Garstang, Stanley Place offers a collection of one and two-bed apartments for the over-55s. This exclusive Retirement Living community allows homeowners to rightsize and free themselves from the burden and responsibility of maintaining a large family home.

In the heart of Lancashire, nestled between the Forest of Bowland and the North West coastline, is the historic town of Garstang. As well as benefiting from a wide range of local amenities, the town offers great transport links, with regular bus services and the M6 and A6 both nearby, making it the perfect location for McCarthy Stone Retirement Living.

The town is bordered by the River Wyre, and Stanley Place enjoys views across the river and the surrounding countryside. Selected apartments have their own balconies as an additional feature, from which you can admire these views or enjoy an outlook across the development's landscaped garden.

Like in all of our Retirement Living developments, you'll be able to be as independent as you like. The Communal lounge will be a place in which you can socialise and get involved in events organised by the House Manager, such as book clubs and art classes. But your apartment is your own, where you can enjoy a little peace and quiet.

A stone's throw from Stanley Place is the medical centre and a pharmacy, and the town centre is less than a 10-minute walk away. For those who use a scooter to get around, the development has a scooter storage room, and there'll be on-site parking for those with a car. As well as several supermarkets and a variety of both high-street and independent shops, the town centre boasts the weekly market and many cafes and restaurants. Plus, the local leisure centre offers a wide variety of fitness classes, from gentle exercise to full body workouts. What's more, the local swimming pool gives lessons and classes for all ages.

THE LOCAL AREA

Living in Garstang

Mentioned in the Domesday Book, the town of Garstang has a long and interesting history. A thriving market town, both then and today, a market has been held in Garstang every week since as far back as 1310. From books and household goods to locally sourced meats and cheeses, the town's many market stalls are teeming with treasures and delights.

To discover more about the town's fascinating past, you can follow the Heritage Trail. Simply take a leaflet and choose the length of your walk. You'll be guided among Garstang's many historic buildings and landmarks, discovering interesting facts about each, including the medieval market cross, Greenhalgh Castle and the town's oldest house.

For the golfers among you, Garstang Golf Centre is less than 2 miles from the development site. A fairly modern course, the centre's 18 holes are playable year-round thanks to excellent drainage. One of the North West's most popular 'pay and play' courses, the centre also offers first-class coaching from well-respected golfing professionals.

The development's proximity to the River Wyre is ideal for any fishing enthusiasts. The river is renowned primarily for its game fishing, with wild brown trout, migratory trout and salmon all caught here. Some sections along the river do offer free fishing (be sure to check first), but the majority is controlled by various fishing clubs and angling associations, from which permits are available.

And the perfect place for a peaceful summer stroll lies just a few minutes' walk from Garstang High Street. A site on the banks of the river, the Millennium Green was set aside in 2000 for wildlife conservation. Enjoy charming riverside walks and excellent bird-watching opportunities among stunning views across the Bowland Fells. As well as the birds attracted by the river, such as kingfishers, sand martins and grey wagtails, you may spot some of the local colony of bats, and there has even been evidence of otter activity in the area.
