Last week, the Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Mrs Louise Clubley, joined a ceremonial brick-laying at the new McCarthy & Stone Retirement Living community at Merchant Place, Southampton.
Cllr Louise Clubley’s guest was Councillor Mrs Pamela Bryant. Also in attendance were Emily Storer, Area Sales Manager; Lloyd Bryant, Senior Site Manager; and Bryony Owen, Local Marketing Executive, who were on hand to celebrate the milestone and see firsthand the progress already made on site. Construction is progressing apace, with the stylish new homes due for completion in winter 2026, and interest in the development already high.
Merchant Place has been carefully designed to offer retirees the best of both worlds, granting them the independence they desire while ensuring support is readily available. Merchant Place will offer a collection of 44 low-maintenance, stylish one and two-bedroom retirement apartments, thoughtfully designed to help residents make the most of their later years.
Each property will benefit from access to superb communal spaces, including a well-appointed lounge ideal for socialising and relaxing alike. Future homeowners at Merchant Place will also enjoy a beautifully landscaped communal garden, maintained by McCarthy & Stone’s team, as well as a guest suite and homeowners lounge for visiting friends and family. Many of the homes will also take advantage of attractive views over the harbour and out to sea, adding to the development’s overall appeal.
Commenting on the event, the mayor Councillor Mrs Louise Clubley said:
Cllr Mrs Bryant and I were extremely impressed with the build so far and the way the whole site is progressing. It was a pleasure to climb the stairs to see the fantastic views. Importantly, marking the milestone of the scheme providing such an inviting independent living space for the over 60’s when they may need to downsize, live closer to family or just welcome a living space within a community. I am sure that the units will be taken up fairly promptly in this location. I wish you and all the key stakeholders within this development the best and look forward to seeing its completion.
Buying a new home is always a big decision, but never more so when considering rightsizing and embracing a new lifestyle in an age-exclusive community. That’s why McCarthy & Stone aims to ensure those considering this lifestyle have as much information, support – and choice – as possible, with a dedicated team on hand to help every step of the way.
For added peace of mind, a House Manager will be on-site during office hours to oversee the day-to-day running of the development, while a 24/7 emergency call system and camera entry system in each apartment will help homeowners feel safe and secure.
Rebecca Johnson, Sales & Marketing Director at McCarthy & Stone, commented: We are pleased to mark the progress of our retirement living apartments at Merchant Place, Warsash.
