When Mr Pegg moved into Roman Court on 31 October, it marked the start of a new chapter. Having previously lived in Congleton, around 10–15 miles away, he decided it was the right time to make a change and enjoy a simpler lifestyle.
Although he had been settled in his previous home, he began thinking about what he really wanted day to day.
I didn’t really want the responsibility of maintaining a property anymore,
he says.
Instead of buying again, Mr Pegg chose to rent at the McCarthy & Stone Retirement Living development - something he says has given him more flexibility.
I didn’t want to tie up my money in another property,
he explains. Renting just made sense.
Having previously owned his home, renting was something new for him, but he quickly realised the advantages. If anything needs sorting, it’s taken care of,
he says. You’re not worrying about repairs or maintenance.
Moving to a different area could have felt like a big step, but Mr Pegg says the support he received made the process straightforward.
Everyone was very helpful during the move,
he says. It made everything much easier.
Now, four months after moving in, he says he is enjoying both the independence of his apartment and the sense of community within the development.
You’ve got your own front door and your own space, but you’re not isolated,
he says.
He has also embraced life at Roman Court and the opportunities to get involved with other residents. There’s always something happening,

Looking back on the move, Mr Pegg has no doubts about his decision.
Absolutely fine,
he says. It suits me down to the ground.
