A ceremonial brick-laying event last week signalled the start of construction at Juliette House, a new Retirement Living development by McCarthy & Stone in Westgate-on-Sea.
The milestone event was attended by Town Council Chair, Cllr David Donaldson and Town Clerk, Nabila Yakub and not only celebrated the progress of this important new addition to the local community but also provided an opportunity to tour the site and gain insight into the vision behind the development.
Once complete, Juliette House will offer a range of flexible living options for the over-60s, alongside thoughtfully designed communal spaces, and enhanced safety and security features, reflecting McCarthy & Stone’s commitment to creating supportive, modern lifestyles tailored to later living.
The construction at Juliette House is progressing well, with completion expected in mid‑2026 and homes set to be released for off‑plan sale in May. The development is already generating positive interest locally, highlighting the need for well-designed retirement living that supports people to remain part of a familiar and established community. Key members of the project team who also attended the bricklaying event included Emily Storer, Area Sales Manager; Michael Halstead, Senior Site Manager; and Wilson Mandisodza, Trainee Assistant Site Manager.
Juliette House has been thoughtfully designed, offering residents the freedom of their own private home alongside the reassurance of a well-managed and supportive environment. The development will comprise a collection of 35 stylish one- and two-bedroom retirement apartments, created with comfort, practicality, and ease of living in mind.
Homeowners will benefit from a range of shared spaces designed to bring people together and strengthen a sense of community, including a welcoming communal lounge that encourages social connection and relaxed conversation between neighbours. The landscaped gardens will provide an attractive outdoor setting for residents to enjoy throughout the year, while a guest suite will offer a convenient and comfortable place for visiting friends and family to stay, helping loved ones remain connected.
Juliette House is ideally located in the heart of Westgate‑on‑Sea, marking an important step forward for the later living community and enabling residents to remain active, independent and closely connected to local life. Westgate Library is just a short distance from the development, while the town’s charming Victorian centre - home to a variety of independent shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants - is also within easy reach, offering a welcoming setting for everyday needs and social outings. In addition, the Blue Flag West Bay beach, located less than a kilometre away, provides a beautiful coastal backdrop for leisurely walks, relaxation and time spent with friends and family.

Commenting on the event, Town Council Chair Cllr David Donaldson said: I was pleased to be invited to the ceremony and to play a small part in marking this stage of the Juliette House development. With its location and purpose, I have no doubt it will be a welcome addition to the town, and I wish the project every success as work continues.
Also commenting on the visit, Emily Storer, McCarthy & Stone Area Sales Manager, said: We were delighted to welcome Cllr Donaldson and Nabila to the site to show them the progress and explain what’s on offer. We even got Cllr Donaldson to help out with laying some bricks – he was a pro! We’re so excited to welcome prospective owners to the site in the coming months as we open the sales suite, so watch this space for more progress.
For added peace of mind, a House Manager will be on-site during office hours to oversee the day-to-day running of the development, while a 24/7 emergency call system and camera entry system in each apartment will help homeowners feel safe and secure.
