One of our lovely residents at Market House in Wimborne has shared how moving into our retirement community has completely transformed her day-to-day life. For her, making the move has brought total peace of mind, wonderful new friendships, and a thriving social life.
Since settling into her retirement apartment, she’s been enjoying all the perks of low-maintenance living, from lower household bills to being part of a genuinely welcoming neighbourhood. Whether she’s joining in on regular social activities and fitness classes, enjoying a bite to eat in our on-site Bistro, or popping out to explore Wimborne’s independent shops and cafés, she says it really has marked the start of a whole new chapter in her retirement living journey.
A fresh start at Market House
My life since October 2024 has completely changed for the better. Here at Market house I have a comfortable Apartment and my electricity bills are a quarter of what I was paying in my old bungalow. I don't have to worry about Maintenance. I used to dread the wind and rain in case tiles came off my roof. There was also the cost of a Gardener to keep my garden tidy but now I can look out from my balcony to beautifully kept lawns and borders.
Some weekends I would be alone in my bungalow and not talk to anyone and it was one of these in January 2024 that I was looking on my computer and discovered the Retirement Village. This was the start of my new life. Kate the sales lady answered all my questions and helped me with the process of selling my bungalow and purchasing my apartment. During the months before I moved in I visited Wimborne to discover the independent shops also the Cafes and restaurants. I think I tried most of them.
At Market House there are various activities each week. I enjoy Knit and Natter, craft and the coffee mornings. The coffee mornings are very popular as it gives us a chance to meet up with the residents in the Bungalows. There are also gentle exercise classes and standing Pilates together with a Film Night in the Lounge.
The Bistro has excellent meals and a lot of the ladies meet up for Sunday Roast and Fish Friday. Some people used the Bistro every day and if you wish you can have a breakfast there in the morning before 10.30 am. There is a themed evening once a month. We have has a Valentine's meal, St Patrick's meal and a St George's day meal is planned later this month. On Easter Sunday we made Easter Bonnets at our Craft session to wear at the table.
If new people move in especially single people, we make them feel welcome and invite them to join us at our table in the Bistro. When I first moved in there were only 4 of us ladies on a table but now we have two large tables as our numbers have increased to 12.
The new residents have told us that they appreciate our chattering at the table as they can ask us questions i.e. about council tax, heating costs, or what bus to catch if they wish to explore the area. It only takes 15 minutes to walk into Wimborne and there are some nice walks down to the river. We have all become good friends and we help each other.
