A new later living community in Exeter has marked a key milestone with a special visit from The Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Anne Jobson, officially celebrating the opening of the show suite at the development.

The Lord Mayor attended the event at Orchid Place, a McCarthy & Stone Retirement Living development, last week for a first-hand look at the newly unveiled one- and two-bedroom show suites, which offer local people the opportunity to experience a development designed around independence, connection and belonging.

Orchid Place on Topsham Road has been thoughtfully created around everyday comfort and reassurance, combining 62 private, well-appointed apartments with inviting shared spaces designed to bring people together. Whether meeting neighbours over coffee in the lounge, welcoming loved ones to stay in the guest suite, or spending time in the landscaped gardens, each element has been carefully considered to support confident, connected living.

The Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Anne Jobson, commented: It was an honour to officially open the show suite at Orchid Place, be shown around some example apartments, and meet some of the sales and construction teams. I’m sure the convenient location and well-designed homes will make Orchid Place a great addition to Exeter and the local community.

Rebecca Johnson, Group Sales and Marketing Director at McCarthy & Stone, commented: We’re delighted that Orchid Place is now welcoming residents to a thoughtfully designed neighbourhood that supports independence and builds a strong sense of community. Developments like this play an important role in helping people remain connected to the places and routines they value, while enjoying greater ease and reassurance in everyday life.

Beyond its residential offer, Orchid Place has already delivered tangible economic benefits across the city. Construction supported a range of Exeter-based contractors and suppliers, helping to sustain local employment and strengthen partnerships. As homeowners begin settling in, nearby shops, services and amenities are also expected to benefit from increased activity and support.

For added peace of mind, a House Manager will be on-site during office hours to oversee the day-to-day running of the development, while a 24/7 emergency call system and camera entry system in each apartment will help homeowners feel safe and secure.
