The local area

Living in Carnforth

Located at the northeast end of Morecambe Bay, Carnforth is a pretty town with lots to see and do. Thanks to its close proximity to both the coast and the hills - and several designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty - Carnforth is a popular spot for walkers, cyclists and anyone else who simply enjoys the great outdoors.

The River Keer and the Lancaster Canal also pass through the town centre, so there are plenty of charming little spots for relaxing or soaking up the sun. From Carnforth you can access the canal network, which will take you to many surrounding villages and out into the stunning countryside.

Trains run to the Lake District, Lancaster, Manchester Airport and Skipton - making it easy to get out for a day trip or a quick holiday away from home.

Carnforth itself has many attractions, such as Leighton Hall, the ancestral home of the furniture maker Gillow, Carnforth Bookshop with more than 100,000 second-hand and antiquarian books, and of course Carnforth railway station, famously used by Oscar-winning film director Sir David Lean in his 1945 classic, Brief Encounter.

Another must-see attraction is the Nether Kellett Farmers Market - it's held on the second Sunday of every month at the Village Hall and is a great place to pick up produce and homemade food, as well as to admire local arts and crafts. For other shopping, Carnforth High Street has a number of independent retailers, as well as restaurants, cafes and pubs.
