The McCarthy & Stone Foundation supports local communities across the UK by funding charities, schools and organisations that help reduce loneliness, improve wellbeing and strengthen social connections for older people. Through targeted grants and match-funding by McCarthy & Stone, it has invested over £1 million into more than 450 local causes, helping people stay connected, supported and independent within their communities.

While McCarthy & Stone is best known for building retirement communities, its impact extends far beyond bricks and mortar. The Foundation works with local partners across the country to support grassroots initiatives that improve quality of life, strengthen community services and help older people live more connected and fulfilling lives.

Supporting local communities across the UK

The Foundation supports local communities across the UK by investing in charities, schools and organisations close to its developments. This funding helps strengthen local services, reduce isolation and improve wellbeing in the areas where residents live.

In Buckinghamshire, targeted community funding is helping to support education, health and environmental initiatives. Around Aylesbury, a total of £4,500 has been awarded to local causes, including £3,000 for Green Ridge Primary Academy, £1,000 for Wendover Dementia Support and £500 for Buckinghamshire NHS Hospitals Trust Charitable Fund.

Nearby, in Hertfordshire, communities close to Norton Place have shared £1,270 in funding. This includes £250 for Hertfordshire Independent Living Services, £395 for Alzheimer’s Research UK and £625 for Gamlingay Eco Hub, supporting both wellbeing and sustainability initiatives.

Further east, £14,000 has been invested in the community around Lionheart Court, including £7,000 for Enfield Health & Wellbeing Service, £6,000 for The Together Project and £1,000 for the Centre for Social Inclusion, helping to deliver vital services and reduce isolation. In addition, £15,395 has supported groups near Jacob Place, with £7,500 each awarded to Memories are Golden and The Wellbeloved Club, alongside £395 for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Surrey has seen some of the most significant impact, with more than £35,000 invested across communities near Campbell House and Violet Place. This includes £30,000 for Embracing Age, £5,000 for Brighter Together and £750 for Elmbridge Community Eco Hub. Additional support has also been provided to Surrey Heath Age Concern, The Link Visiting Scheme and Wokingham and District Association for the Elderly, helping to strengthen local support networks and reduce loneliness.

In Bedfordshire, £34,996 has been invested around Penny House, including £30,000 for Friends for Life and £4,996 for Bedford Players Trust. Meanwhile, in Stamford, £1,680 has supported Evergreen Care Trust near Barley Ridge Gardens, continuing the Foundation’s commitment to strengthening local communities across the UK.

Elsewhere across the UK, smaller grants are continuing to make a meaningful difference. Near Walter House, £750 has been awarded to Crossroads Braintree and Chelmsford. In Bishop’s Stortford, £7,500 has supported The Wellbeloved Club, while £400 has gone to Cotswold Friends in Stow-on-the-Wold and £800 to The Old Bath House and Community Centre in Milton Keynes

Creating stronger, more connected communities

Across the South East, East of England and surrounding regions, the McCarthy & Stone Foundation helps tackle loneliness, strengthen community ties and improve wellbeing for older people.

From small charities to regional organisations, each grant supports more connected and inclusive communities, whether through social activity, healthcare or local hubs.

As the Foundation grows, so does its impact, reinforcing McCarthy & Stone’s commitment to social value and positive community change.
