What I wanted was the flexibility to say "well okay I'm renting. In two years time, three years time, I might be looking at moving somewhere else instead". McCarthy & Stone would have another development in a different location so I could actually move!

The maintenance of a larger property was something that we no longer wanted to deal with. To come here, where we have lovely gardens, without the hassle of constant maintenance is a huge relief – we can just enjoy it.

When my husband passed away, I was left with a big house and garden, neither of which I could cope with for health reasons. Some months later I saw an ad for these flats being sold off plan. I immediately put my name down, despite my children thinking it was too soon after their father's death. Now, with worse health problems they couldn't be more glad that I am here.

Reactions to the Covid-19 crisis

During the pandemic our teams and homeowners have really pulled together to look out for each other and keep everyone safe. We’ve been so moved by the incredible response from everyone and by the thank you messages we’ve received. You can read more here.



My very sincere thanks go to Ms Gibson for her care and compassion and for contacting me to find out how I am coping in isolation. As a 93-year-old, I find it heartening. My thanks also go to Mr Cox, Manager of Pebbles Restaurant who supplies lunch - if we want it - to our apartments, and who also setup grocery deliveries should we require it.

A surprise - socially distanced- party

Our House Managers have been creative in their efforts to keep spirits high. Like Sally at Imber Court in Warminster who organised a surprise celebration for Pat and John Harris’s diamond wedding anniversary. ‘We were amazed to see our friends and neighbours,’ says Pat, ‘together with our son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren, all sitting (two metres apart) in the garden!’ Sally made a cake. And knowing Pat is from Scotland, she also arranged for a piper in full traditional attire to come out and serenade them. Pat cried. ‘It was so beautiful!’ Pat reflects on her three years of living in Imber Court. Does she have any regrets? ‘Only that we didn’t move here sooner. It’s our little bit of paradise!’
