McCarthy Stone, the UK’s leading retirement housebuilder has announced that construction will soon get underway at the site of the former Bramcote School on Filey Road, Scarborough, which will see it transformed into high-quality retirement apartments.

The new Retirement Living Plus development, Sycamore Court, will provide an ideal downsizing option for retirees seeking the privacy that comes with owning your own home; but need a little extra support in the form of domestic assistance, such as help with laundry or cleaning. Apartments will be available to buy off-plan from spring 2018, with first occupations expected in autumn 2018.

The development is also set to bring many economic and social benefits to the town. McCarthy Stone estimate that the average total expenditure generated by its homeowners in the local economy for one of its schemes per year is £670,000, which could provide a welcome boost to nearby shops and cafes in Scarborough.

There will also be communal space including a comfortable homeowners’ lounge, perfect for socialising with friends and neighbours, a bistro restaurant which will serve freshly prepared meals and light snacks daily, and a stylish guest suite for when family and friends come to stay.

Liz Green, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy Stone North East, comments: “Our Sycamore Court development has already attracted significant levels of interest from people who are interested in downsizing to a lower maintenance property in this sought after coastal town. It’s important that people are able to stay close to friends or family in later life, and this development will help us to make a really positive impact by improving the local housing choice for elderly people close to the town centre of Scarborough, with its many shops and facilities.”

Having been awarded a 5* customer satisfaction rating from the Home Builders Federation for the 12th consecutive year, McCarthy Stone is committed to designing high quality, spacious apartments that allow people to live independently and make the most of their retirement with a range of amenities on their doorstep, as well as providing the opportunity for community and companionship.

Liz continues: “We have no doubt our new Scarborough development will continue to prove extremely popular, so we are encouraging anyone interested in securing one of these apartments to register their interest as soon as possible.”

Sycamore Court will feature a 24 hour emergency call system and on-site parking. A dedicated Estate Manager will oversee the running of the development with all external maintenance, gardening and landscaping taken care of so homeowners are free to spend more time on the things they enjoy.
