Macclesfield is known as the gateway to the Peak District, with a breathtaking array of parks, rivers, canals, reservoirs and woodlands on the doorstep. A jewel in Macclesfield's crown, Capesthorne Hall is a family-owned Jacobean-style stately home set in 100 acres of beautiful Cheshire countryside. Built between 1719 and 1732, the house is open to the public, where you can marvel at its historical paintings, marble sculptures, antique furniture and 16th-century stained glass windows. The grounds also offer a tranquil setting for an afternoon stroll, with three lakes, formal gardens, an ice house and woodland walks, among the delights.
