The Close Welcomes its First Homeowners

Retirees in Nuneaton are celebrating six months in their new homes at The Close, McCarthy Stone’s new Retirement Living development on Church Street.

Despite the uncertainties and challenges that the pandemic has presented, McCarthy Stone, worked closely with its new homeowners, among them Gloria Crosby, to ensure that they could move into their new homes safely and benefit from being part of a new, welcoming  community during these turbulent times.

Gloria moved into her apartment last summer and is now settled into The Close, and hasn’t looked back since, as she explains:
“My previous home was in a rural location and had a large garden which was becoming more difficult for me to manage.  In addition, my children live away from the area, so I wanted to ensure that I could access the help and support I would need, but also maintain my cherished independence.  The Close has been a great solution.”

Located in the centre of Nuneaton, the development offers easy access to all the local amenities, including a wide array of shops, museums, and art galleries.  Browsing the local retail offering is something Gloria loves to do when she can.

“Being close to the shops means that I can plan to visit them whenever it suits me.  As I am not able to drive, a leisurely chance to shop was often difficult to arrange when I lived in my old property, but now they are on my doorstep, I couldn’t be happier. I’m looking forward to visiting them as soon as the restrictions are lifted.”

Since moving in, Gloria has taken the opportunity to get to know fellow residents - albeit following the different guidelines that have been in place in recent months.  Whilst many of the popular communal social activities that sit at the heart of all McCarthy Stone developments have been put on hold, the team behind the scenes at The Close have got creative to help homeowners meet each other.

Gloria continues: “The House Manager has been fantastic in helping everyone moving in to get to know each other.  During the nice weather, she organised fish and chip deliveries which we were all able to enjoy safely in the garden.  These socially distanced gatherings enabled many of us to share a conversation in a relaxed way and helped to lessen the impact of the restrictions we have all had to follow.

“Although 2021 hasn’t got off to the start any of us had hoped for, I’m looking forward to spending more time with everyone here at The Close and enjoying a full social calendar of events and activities organised at the development as soon as we can.

“I have loved my first few months as an owner of a beautiful new apartment.  I feel safe and secure and know that I have the help and support of the fantastic staff whenever I need it.  More than anything I value the independence I have to enjoy my retirement surrounded by good people and access to the amenities that I want to use.  I am very optimistic that next year will find us all in a better place and that life at The Close will continue to be everything I dreamed it would be.”
