Visitors learn a new retirement hobby over tea and a chat
Homeowners from Elderton Place, a coastal retirement community for the over 70s in the North East of England, invited locals to take part in their regular ‘Knit and Natter’ club. The aim of this special event was to build friendships with people living in the area and to promote the positive benefits of retirement hobbies.
The homeowners shared their knitting know-how with Whitley Bay locals, teaching them skills like how to stitch and how to choose the right yarn for their project. Visitors also had the chance to take a tour and learn about life at the development. This is one of the many social clubs that Elderton Place has opened up to the public.
Louise Flynn, Divisional Marketing Manager, McCarthy Stone, says, “We look forward to welcoming in more local retirees to take a sneak peek at some of the community clubs that have been created here.”
Taking up a retirement hobby is thought to lower levels of depression, and provide higher life satisfaction, happiness, and even health in people aged 65 and over.
