Things to do in Whitby, North Yorkshire
This lovely new retirement community is nestled in a residential location less than a mile from the coast and harbour of this picturesque seaside town -famous for its links to James Cook, the HM Endeavour and Bram Stoker’s Dracula - and on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.
There are plenty of things to do in Whitby, from a stroll along the beach and pier – perhaps with some of the town’s famous fish and chips in hand - to counting the steps up to St Mary’s Church.
Then, of course, there’s the famous Whitby Abbey and many museums to explore. Or perhaps you fancy a scenic trip in a steam train on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway? It takes you from Whitby to Pickering crossing historical viaducts and stopping at pretty Goathland station which was featured in the Harry Potter movies.
As well as the many shops, pubs and eateries, the town has plentiful amenities for an active retirement, including a leisure centre, cricket club, rugby club with squash courts and a golf club on the edge of the town.
