Known as the ‘Jewel in the Thanet’s crown’, and popular with Victorians, Broadstairs is in a prime position on the Thanet Coast with its chalk cliffs and glorious coastal walks. It boasts several sandy and sheltered beaches and bays, including unspoilt Botany Bay, surfy Joss Bay and pretty Viking Bay which is perfect for traditional family fun complete with colourful beach huts..
Originally a 14th century fishing settlement it was called Broadstairs after a flight of steps were carved into the cliff to give access to a holy shrine.
From Broadstairs it’s easy to explore the rest of the ‘Garden of England’ that is Kent. If you head inland, you’ll find the historic St Peter's, renown for its imaginative volunteer-run tours. And you’ll be perfectly placed for other popular seaside towns including Margate, Ramsgate and Whitstable. The Thanet Loop bus route provides regular transport between Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs. From Broadstairs train station you can reach Canterbury in 25 mins or St Pancras International in London in an hour and a half.
