Things to do in Dover
With iconic White Cliffs, a dramatic castle, military museums, beaches and day trips to France – there’s a lot to love about this emblematic Kent town. Its famous White Cliffs, immortalised by Vera Lyn, are without doubt a spectacular natural phenomenon made of pure white limestone, and the views from them are breath-taking. Enjoy the scenery at the vintage style Mrs Knott’s Tearoom at the National Trust’s South Foreland Lighthouse.
Elkington House is conveniently located close to the town centre. It’s just 0.7 miles to Dover Priory train station, which takes from just over an hour to connect to London St. Pancras. The nearest beach is Dover Beach, just one mile away. The area surrounding Dover features some of the most stunning coastline England has to offer, including the South Foreland Heritage Coast, and the Dover-Folkestone Heritage Coast. Kent Downs AONB also stretches to the fringes of Dover. You will also find some historic cities close by, with Canterbury being a popular hot spot, with a plethora of high street names, vintage boutiques, glorious markets and restaurants to suit all tastes.
Dover has plenty of local amenities too including supermarkets, banks, a shopping centre, cafes and takeaways. Dover has benefitted from a brand new regeneration scheme across the waterfront, with many of the shops and restaurants gaining a new lease of life adding to this vibrant community. Nearby, you will find the green fields of Connaught Park, with mature trees and open grassy spaces. Fort Burgoyne, Priory Gate and the Western Heights of Dover are also popular historic attractions in the town. Dover is extremely well connected for exploring the South East of England, London, the wider UK and the continent, with regular ferries to France.
