If you’re after history and culture, The Friars, a 13th century monastery is well worth a trip. It’s still home to a small community of Carmelite Friars, but welcomes visitors, encouraging you to explore the peaceful gardens, feed the ducks, eat at the traditional tearooms and peruse the Aylesford Pottery & School of Ceramics. The Friars also holds offers events, workshops and fayres for the community to enjoy.  For even more ancient history visit English Heritage’s Kit's Coty House, and Little Kit's Coty House, two megalithic communal burial chambers in Kent that date back some 6,000 years. 

Aylesford is a fantastic spot for an active retirement in the great outdoors, with glorious countryside surrounding it, whether you’re after riverside strolls, nature watching at Ditton Quarry Nature Reserve, cycling, canoeing or fishing at Laybourne Lakes Country Park or a round of golf at Cotree Manor Park Golf Club. Plus there’s excellent  transport links to the wider Kent area, including regular services from Aylesford Train Station.
