SIGHTS

One of the most famous attractions in St Albans is the stunning Cathedral and Abbey Church. The building itself is a mix of both Norman and Gothic architecture and dates back to around the 8th century. Visitors are welcome, but it’s still a working church and holds regular services for worshippers and tourists alike.

Another big draw for St Albans is the Verulamium Museum and accompanying nearby Roman Theatre. The museum brings to life the history of the ancient Roman city which once stood there and is brimming with treasures and artefacts from this fascinating period in time. The Roman Theatre is just a stone’s throw from the museum and is the only visible example of such ruins in the whole country.

ATTRACTIONS

While the cathedral might dominate in terms of landmarks, there’s a wealth of other great historical sites to visit. There’s the Clock Tower, which is the country’s only medieval town belfry, the St Albans Museum and Gallery that details the secrets of the city and Redbournbury Mill, a fully restored watermill dating back to the 1700s.

These are only a few examples of the wonderful sights that can be found near our retirement homes in St Albans, but if you’d like to take in as much as you can when your friends and family visit, there are guided tours available. Such heritage walks are a great way for you to see the best of what St Albans has to offer, all while learning lots of interesting facts and stories about this popular place.
