We’ve earned our retirement, say over 50s

A lifetime of hard work, raising the next generation and paying into the system all featured highly as reasons why the over 50s felt their retirement years should be their own to enjoy. And when it came to making the most out of later life, travel (24%), increased leisure time (31%) and spending more time with family (18%) topped the wish list of respondents.
But while many are looking forward to a more leisurely pace to life, a third felt anxious about their retirement years, as they faced the realities of getting older. More than 60% said they were worried about financial constraints, 28% felt they would have a reduced sense of purpose and 27% feared they’d become lonely and isolated.
