McCarthy & Stone continues on its journey to champion older people with the launch of a new Charitable Foundation
17th November 2020
McCarthy & Stone, the UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities, has today announced the launch of the McCarthy & Stone Foundation as the organisation continues to celebrate, champion and defend the role of older people.
For more than 40 years McCarthy & Stone has created retirement communities that support older people and enrich their quality of life. Community is at the core of what it does, with more than £600k raised for charitable causes over the last three years.
The creation of the Foundation will enable McCarthy & Stone to build on this long-term commitment and vision to support older people and create lives that are fulfilling, healthy and independent. With the support of the business as well as McCarthy & Stone’s employees, homeowners, and partners, the McCarthy & Stone Foundation will deliver a grants programme, longer-term charity partnerships and volunteering opportunities.
Each programme will be designed to deliver a range of impacts that will strengthen communities, support local charities and organisations with resource and expertise, and provide a voice to champion the role of older people in a thriving society. It is hoped that the Foundation’s work will provide support for those who need it most, including older people facing isolation, loneliness, or poor health; young people who may be falling behind personally and academically; and communities in need of regeneration.
McCarthy & Stone said that COVID-19 has highlighted real challenges within local communities, with older people and young people often among the most vulnerable. The company welcomed the launch of the McCarthy & Stone Foundation, which aims to bring generations together, support older people, and contribute to community regeneration. It said the initiative will involve employees, partners, and homeowners to create a lasting, positive impact across the country.
Graeme Marsh, Foundation Manager, McCarthy & Stone said: “An independent charitable Foundation is a tangible commitment to making a real difference to the lives of people in communities around the country and couldn’t come at a more important time. I am delighted to have the opportunity to take this fantastic initiative forwards and start creating a real positive impact in communities up and down the country.”
The McCarthy & Stone Foundation’s programmes will be started in the coming months, to bring financial support and volunteers to both national and local charities. The application window for grants will be confirmed in due course.
