Charity donations to local good causes in the community

As part of its commitment to building community spirit the team behind Squadron House, a retirement living housing development for over 60s in Martlesham Heath, Suffolk has donated money to two local and very worthwhile causes.

Keeping the coffee flowing at The Runway Café

McCarthy Stone has made a £1,000 donation to The Runway Café at the rear of Saint Michael and All Angels Church on The Drift. Run by a team of volunteers, the coffee shop provides a safe and friendly meeting place for locals wanting to enjoy home-baked treats, barista style coffee and good company.

As a non-profit, the café relies heavily on donations. It has been a popular feature of Martlesham Heath since its setup, offering a friendly face and a listening ear to those who might otherwise find themselves isolated and lonely. Therefore, when its coffee machine broke, McCarthy Stone stepped in and donated £1,000 towards a replacement.

Jo Stuckey, Manager at The Runway Café, said, “We want to give a huge thank you to McCarthy Stone for their generous donation that has allowed us to purchase a new coffee machine. The Runway Café has become the hub of the community, where people come to enjoy delicious coffee, freshly baked cakes handmade by our dedicated team of bakers, and an opportunity to speak with other customers and our volunteers.”

Birchwood Primary School accepts cheque from McCarthy Stone

Helping to build a Zen Den for local children

Birchwood Primary School received £500 from McCarthy Stone towards its ‘Zen Den’ project, which will provide a safe space for the children to escape the stresses of daily life supported by trained members of staff.

The school has been putting a whole host of fundraising activities to drum up support for the Zen Den, including Summer Fetes, quiz nights, Christmas Fayres, and discos, and has so far raised over £19,000. McCarthy Stone’s £500 donation will take the school one step closer to its goal of £23,000.

Veronica commented, “At Birchwood Primary School, we’ve always strived to create an environment that nurtures not only the academic growth of our pupils, but also their social, emotional, and mental wellbeing. Therefore, we are taking proactive steps to help alleviate stress, anxiety, and social isolation with our Zen Den. We want to express our gratitude to McCarthy Stone for their support in helping us move a further step forward towards turning our dream into a reality.”

David Meachem, Divisional Sales Director at McCarthy Stone, says, “An important part of what we do at McCarthy Stone is support local activities and initiatives in the towns and communities in which we build to help create a lasting, positive legacy. Therefore, we’re delighted to lend our support to The Runway Café and Birchwood Primary School, which are both prominent features of the community.”
