'Strictly Come Llanthony’ raises an incredible £14K+ for the McCarthy Stone Foundation

Seven members of the team at Llanthony Place, a Retirement Living PLUS development for the over 70s in Gloucester teamed up with professional dancers from DanceStars Gloucester to put on the Strictly-style event at Llanthony Secunda Priory to the delight of homeowners and guests and to raise vital funds for the McCarthy Stone Foundation, which supports grassroots, volunteer led charitable causes aimed at older people.

The idea came from Mathew Daniels, Estate Manager at Llanthony Place, who co-hosted on the night, and managed to organise sponsorship from local businesses including Symphony Hearing, MPK Vehicle Repair, Badminton Developments and Alouna Recruitment Group.

Droves of people turned up at the event to show their support and enjoy the dazzling dancefloor showcase, raffle, and live performance by local singer, Emma Katherine.

It was a fab-u-lous night with 10s all around

The McCarthy Stone dancers, who all had no previous experience, did eight weeks of intensive training before battling it out on the dancefloor for the winner’s trophy. Earning first place in both the group and solo stages was Marie Bird, administrator at Llanthony Place and her partner, James Hall. Lee Mainza, Llanthony Place Duty Manager, and Lydia Hall took second place with their salsa.

Fiona Docherty, Managing Director and McCarthy Stone Foundation Trustee said: “The Strictly Come Llanthony event was a huge success and it was a pleasure to welcome guests from across Gloucestershire to witness this fantastic occasion and spread the community spirit. On behalf of McCarthy Stone, I want to thank everyone who donated for their generosity and to congratulate all those who participated, particularly Marie Bird and James Hall, who managed to blow everyone away with their showstopping performances.”

Huge congratulations to everyone involved and to Mathew Daniels, Estate Manager for coming up with this fantastic idea. Keeeeep dancing!
