McCarthy Stone, the developer behind the new Dawson Grange Retirement Living development on North Street in Ripon has donated £500 to the Sporting Memories Foundation a national charity which was founded and is operated from Topcliffe.

The Sporting Memories Foundation supports older people living with dementia, depression and loneliness by engaging them in social and physical activities to help them to recall sporting memories. By sharing stories and using images of sports and memorabilia, the clubs help members to connect with past events - reawakening positive thoughts and feelings that otherwise remain hidden away.

Susie Brindley, Chief Operating Officer at The Sporting Memories Foundation, said: “We are very happy to receive the donation from McCarthy Stone. As a charity we rely heavily on donations to keep training and supporting our volunteers. Our clubs, which are aimed at improving the mental and physical wellbeing of those over 50, help reignite sporting memories and we look forward to welcoming residents of Dawson Grange to their local group.

Fiona Brooks, Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy Stone Northern Division, commented: “As a company, we appreciate that our responsibility is not only to boost the provision of quality, purpose-built properties for the over 60s, but also to create a positive legacy in the areas in which we build.

McCarthy Stone, we recognise that loneliness and depression are issues that can affect the older generation.  Our retirement communities are designed to enrich the lives of the over 60s by providing a welcoming and inclusive place to live, where there are plenty of opportunities for companionship and socialising. We are delighted to support the Sporting Memories Foundation with this donation, and we wish the charity every success for the future as it continues to make a difference to the lives of people in Ripon and beyond.

Residents at Dawson Grange will benefit from a communal lounge, where they can relax and socialise with new neighbours, a guest suite for when friends or family come to say, and beautifully maintained landscaped gardens. With security in mind, the development will feature a 24-hour emergency call system and a dedicated House Manager will also help to provide peace-of-mind.

Set in a convenient location in the cathedral city of Ripon, residents will be able to enjoy easy access to an extensive range of shops, restaurants and essential amenities, as well as a weekly market of more than 120 stalls at Ripon Market Square. With the beautiful Yorkshire Dales nearby, residents will experience the best of both worlds – bustling town living and stunning countryside in which to explore.

More than nine out of ten customers would recommend McCarthy Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the full Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation for 14 years’ running.  McCarthy Stone is the only UK housebuilder of any size or type to achieve this accolade for 14 consecutive years, which is every year the awards have been run.
