A homeowner at McCarthy Stone’s Austen Place Retirement Living Plus development on Lower Turk Street is celebrating after winning a bronze award for ‘Alton in Bloom’; a competition that encourages residents, community groups, businesses and neighbourhoods to make Alton “bloom” each year.Mrs Margaret Attrill, 86, has been a homeowner at Austen Place since April this year, but has been a keen gardener her whole life. She has taken inspiration from her travels to different countries and their cultures to create stunning floral displays in many of the homes she has lived in across the UK.
Speaking about her win, Mrs Attrill commented: “I was honoured to receive my bronze certificate from the Mayor of Alton for my balcony at Austen Place. All of the other homeowners have been so supportive, I can’t wait to enter Alton in Bloom again, and it would be fantastic if more of us here at Austen Place could all enter our balconies together next year.”
Geoff Bates, Head of Marketing for McCarthy Stone Southdom, said: “We are extremely proud of Mrs Attrill’s success in Alton in Bloom, and we are thrilled to hear that she will be entering her balcony again for the next competition. Occasions such as this give us the chance to showcase the talents of our homeowners and to provide people with an insight into the lives homeowners enjoy at the development.”
Comprising a selection of 56 one and two bedroom Retirement Living Plus apartments, exclusively designed for people aged 70 and over, Austen Place provides everything homeowners could want for a relaxing retirement.
The development features a luxurious homeowners’ lounge – a shared space where homeowners can come together and socialise over a cup of tea – and a restaurant serving freshly prepared meals daily for those who do not wish to cook in their apartments.
Flexible domestic and personalised care packages are available for homeowners, which can be tailored to provide varying levels of support according to individual needs. The Estates Team is on site around the clock and there is also an emergency call system for added peace-of-mind for homeowners and their families.
A picturesque market town in Hampshire, Alton is known for its connections to Jane Austen – whose former home is open to the public – and other historic buildings. There is a popular Tuesday market, and the town features several vintage boutiques, a sports centre, and a number of supermarkets.
For the first time, McCarthy Stone customers in Alton can also choose from a range of flexible Retirement Living Plus solutions to suit them and their personal circumstances, whether they prefer to rent at Austen Place or to take advantage of the part buy, part rent option.
