Homeowners at sociable Stour Gate, a Retirement Living community for the over 60s in Blandford St Mary, Dorset, enjoyed a spectacular Royal Ascot afternoon tea that combined the glamour of race day with the warmth of their lively community.
The shared lounge was adorned with race-themed decorations and guests arrived dressed to impress, donning fabulous hats and stylish outfits in true Ascot tradition.
The afternoon began with a traditional afternoon tea, featuring delicate finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam and an array of cakes and pastries. Sparkling wine and classic Pimm’s cocktails added a celebratory touch to the occasion.
As the races began, the room buzzed with friendly competition as everyone watched live footage of the Royal Ascot races. Cheers and groans filled the air as guests placed fun, informal bets, making for a light-hearted and spirited atmosphere, while a selection of sing-alongs got everyone clapping and tapping.
House Manager and event organiser, Delia, says, “It’s wonderful to see so many smiles. This event brought us all together in a really special way – with music, laughter, and a touch of British tradition. It was more than just a celebration of horse racing—it was a celebration of community, friendship, and enjoying the best of retirement life.”
