13th December 2019
Purbrook locals recently joined residents at Shilling Place Retirement Living development to get into the Christmas spirit at an exclusive free festive event.
Those who came along were treated to mouth-watering mince pies and a warming glass or two of mulled wine, all whilst enjoying a sparkling showcase by the Purbrook Primary School choir, who performed live renditions of festive favourites and Christmas carols.
The event was part of McCarthy Stone’s series of ‘At Home’ events, which are happening at selected developments across the UK throughout December, inspired by the social tradition of days gone-by that sees friends and family gather at home to celebrate the festive season. Everyone who attended also had the opportunity to take a tour of Shilling Place, meet with current residents, and find out more about the lifestyle that McCarthy Stone offers.
Geoff Bates, Head of Marketing at McCarthy Stone South, comments: “Everyone who came along to our ‘At Home’ event had a wonderful time. It was a great opportunity for locals to see for themselves what a close-knit and supportive community we have here at Shilling Place, whilst getting into the festive spirt.
“I’d like to thank the pupils from Purbrook Park School for their brilliant performance and helping to get our festive season off to a fantastic start!”
The team at the development has also gifted a Christmas tree to help spread festive cheer to the local community, as part of St John’s Church Festival of Trees.
Located just across the road from Shilling Place, the Christmas tree will sit pride of place at the church on London Road throughout the festive period until Tuesday 7th January.
Geoff Bates continues: “Christmas is the perfect time to bring the community together, so we are really pleased to be able to play a part in this year’s Festival of Trees, and we hope our tree will help to get everyone into the Christmas spirit.”
Designed for the over 60s, Shilling Place features a communal lounge, which is perfect for socialising with new neighbours. Residents can make the most of beautiful landscaped gardens knowing all the maintenance is taken care of; and many properties also include patios or balconies, so retirees can enjoy the outdoors from their own apartment. A hotel-style guest suite is available for visiting family and friends.
A House Manager takes care of the day-to-day running of Shilling Place, while a secure entry system and 24 hour emergency call system provided added peace-of-mind.
More than nine out of ten customers would recommend McCarthy Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the full Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation for 14 years’ running. McCarthy Stone is the only UK housebuilder of any size or type to achieve this accolade for 14 consecutive years, which is every year the awards have been run.
