McCarthy Stone, the UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities, has unveiled the name to its upcoming Retirement Living development in Hexham as Hewson Court.

The developer has chosen to name the site on Dene Avenue in tribute to William Hewson, who was born in Hexham in 1739. Hewson was a British surgeon, anatomist and physiologist, known for his work in haematology. He was awarded the Copley Medal in 1769 – chosen by the Royal Society for outstanding achievements in research in any branch of science – and was elected to join the Royal Society in 1770.

Fiona Brooks, Divisional Sales Director at McCarthy Stone, commented: “As progress continues at the site in Hexham, we’re delighted to be able to reveal the name for the Retirement Living development and recognise a local born figure, William Hewson, who was influential with his work in haematology.

“We are looking forward to becoming an integrated part of the Hexham community, and we believe that our development will play a real part in helping to bring friends and family together in later life, something we feel is important and will bring lots of positive benefits to the area.”

Once complete, Hewson Court will comprise of 48 luxurious retirement apartments with prices available in the summer. With high interest in the development, retirees are encouraged to register for updates from McCarthy Stone to avoid disappointment.

The development will feature a communal lounge which opens onto a seated patio area and garden, ideal for enjoying a catch-up with friends and neighbours; and a guest suite, which will be available for when family members and friends come to stay. For added peace-of-mind, a House Manager will be on hand to take care of the smooth-running of the development, as well as a 24 hour emergency call system should assistance be needed day or night.

Hewson Court will be located in the picturesque town of Hexham in Northumberland. Residents can enjoy the weekly farmers’ market held in the town centre, a short stroll from the development, while Hexham Abbey offers the chance for residents to find out more about the town’s history. For those who like to remain active, Sele Park has a number of woodland walks and activities to take advantage of, perfect for family outings. Local amenities including shops, banks, cafes and restaurants can all be found on the town’s high-street, a stone’s throw away from the development.

More than nine out of ten customers would recommend McCarthy Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the full Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation for 14 years’ running.  McCarthy Stone is the only UK housebuilder of any size or type to achieve this accolade for 14 consecutive years, which is every year the awards have been run.
