McCarthy Stone, the housebuilder behind the Elizabeth Place Retirement Living Plus development on Trimbush Way in Market Harborough, has donated £178 to local football team, the Regals, to sponsor their kit for their entry into the Richard Smith Memorial Tournament held on Sunday, which raised over £1,500 for Harborough Town Football Club.
The donation ensured they looked the part as they took on teams from across Leicestershire in the 6-a-side tournament organised and hosted by Harborough Town FC.
The Tournament is popular annual event in Leicestershire and helps secure funding for the not-for-profit Club, which has a first team in the United Counties Premier Division but also runs a reserve team, veterans’ team, walking football team and a junior section, which contains 44 teams for boys and girls aged between 6 and 18.
Chris Wake, a member of the Regals team who played in the tournament, comments: “Harborough Town F.C. plays an important role in the local community and fundraising events like this tournament are key to ensuring the future of the club.
“We were delighted that McCarthy Stone’s Elizabeth Place Retirement Living Plus development sponsored our entry and provided a great new kit so we very much looked the part. I think the new kit definitely improved our performance - I’m just sorry we didn’t get to take the winning trophy home at the end too.”
Cheryl Bissett, Regional Sales and Marketing Director at McCarthy Stone East Midlands, said: “We are delighted to make a donation to support the Regals team and the Richard Smith Memorial Tournament. Clubs such as Harborough Town F.C, which put on important sporting activities for young and old, are a cornerstone of our community. A tight-knit community and companionship are among the many benefits of living in a McCarthy Stone development, and we are proud to support those who share our values and are helping to make a difference to the lives of others.”
