Charity donation to local good cause in the community
The Friends of Witton Lakes (FOWL) group in Erdington has received a £500 donation from the McCarthy Stone Foundation. This support will assist FOWL in promoting local wildlife and fostering a greater connection with nature within the community.
The dedicated volunteers of FOWL plan to use the funds to create informative boards highlighting the diverse insects, amphibians, and animals that inhabit the park’s ‘Hibernation Station’ during the winter months. This initiative aims to educate visitors about the vital roles these species play in the ecosystem.
Among FOWL’s recent projects is the installation of an accessible trail at the Witton Lakes Eco Hub, an environmentally focused community facility. This trail will guide visitors past the Hibernation Station and designated habitats for frogs, newts, butterflies, and bees, encouraging their growth and survival.
This donation is part of our Happier, Healthier Project, which aims to provide financial assistance to community groups that enhance the wellbeing of local residents.
Linda Hines MBE, Chair of FOWL and Witton Lodge Community Association, expressed her gratitude: “Having lived in Erdington for most of my life, I’m passionate about our local area and empowering residents to contribute positively to our community. FOWL is dedicated to making Witton Lakes Park a wonderful space for everyone while safeguarding the incredible species that call it home. We are truly thankful to McCarthy Stone for their support, which will enable us to purchase these valuable information boards.”
At McCarthy Stone, we prioritise engaging with the communities surrounding our developments. We are proud to support Friends of Witton Lakes Park and are inspired by the meaningful work they’re doing to promote environmental sustainability.
