McCarthy Stone, the housebuilder behind the Saxon Gardens Retirement Living Plus development on Penn Street in Oakham, has donated £500 to The Mutts Nutts Rescue.

The local charity is dedicated to helping older people and those with terminal illnesses with their pets, when they can no longer manage alone. The funds from McCarthy Stone will help to launch a new service allowing owners to create a plan in advance which will cater for the needs of their pet should anything should happen to them.

Terry Cook, Trustee of The Mutts Nutts Rescue, commented: “We are delighted to receive this kind donation from McCarthy Stone. We have long believed that, as a small, local charity it would be great to implement a ‘legacy’ service for pets and their owners, providing up front planning that will give them the ultimate peace-of-mind. With this contribution, we can now fulfil our ambitions.”

Cheryl Bissett, Regional Sales and Marketing Director at McCarthy Stone East Midlands, commented: “As a company, we appreciate that our responsibility is not only to build quality, purpose-built retirement properties, but also to create a positive legacy in the communities in which we build. We felt that The Mutts Nutts Rescue is a charity that not only provides an incredibly important service, it is a cause that will resonate with many of our own homeowners at Saxon Gardens.

“At McCarthy Stone, we understand the important relationship between older people and their pets. Questions about our pet-friendly policy are always top of the list for pet owners who are considering downsizing; and it is our pleasure to explain that well-behaved pets are welcome in all of our developments, so homeowners can enjoy all of these advantages during their retirement years.”

Currently under construction, Saxon Gardens will eventually comprise of 58 Retirement Living Plus apartments for the over 70s.  Homeowners at the development will be able to retain their independence in the form of home ownership, yet still have the reassurance of a range of additional security and support services.

Saxon Gardens will feature a high-quality table-service bistro, a spacious and contemporary homeowners’ lounge, and lifts to assist with access; as well as beautiful landscaped gardens, and a convenient guest suite for when friends and family come to visit.

An Estates Manager will take care of the smooth-running of the development; and support packages can be tailored to homeowner’s individual needs, including help with chores such as housework and laundry.

Located a short walk from the high street, future homeowners at Saxon Gardens will benefit from easy access to local amenities such as a bank, pharmacy, Tesco and independent cafes and restaurants. The development is also ideally situated close to public transport links to locations further afield.

Potential purchasers can now make the most of their first opportunity to reserve their preferred property at Saxon Gardens off-plan, with one-bedroom apartments currently priced from £214,950 and two bedroom apartments currently starting from £309,950.
