The UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities, McCarthy Stone, has officially announced the name of its forthcoming Retirement Living development in Dorchester, following a competition inviting locals to put their stamp on the new community.

Having been inundated with suggestions, the new development has been named, Casterbridge Court. Five local residents; Virginia Bennison, Sally Parker, David Foxwell, Mark Grant-Jones and Paul Webb, all nominated the name as part of McCarthy Stone’s ‘What’s in a Name’ competition, and have each won a £40 cheque for their efforts.

One of the winners, Virginia Bennison, comments: “I chose Casterbridge because it is the name that Thomas Hardy called ‘Dorchester’ in his novel, The Mayor of Casterbridge. Thomas Hardy is synonymous with Dorchester and I thought this name was really in-keeping with the town’s literary history. I’m delighted to have won the competition and would like to thank McCarthy Stone for their prize.”

Ciara Hilley, Divisional Marketing Manager for McCarthy Stone, said: “Congratulations to all the winners for naming our latest development in Dorchester. We received some fantastic suggestions from the local community, so we would like to thank everyone who entered, but there is no doubt Casterbridge Court was the overwhelming favourite. We appreciate that our responsibility is not only to increase the provision of high quality, purpose-built age-exclusive properties, but also to create a positive legacy in the communities in which we build, which is why we wanted to give them the opportunity to put their stamp on our new development from the onset.”

McCarthy Stone has also revealed a first-look of its brand new Retirement Living development in Dorchester, with a CGI released today to show how Casterbridge Court will look once complete. Properties are expected to be released for off plan sales in Autumn 2020 and the first homeowners will be welcomed in Spring 2021.

Ciara Hilley continued: “We are looking forward to the launch of Casterbridge Court, when apartment specifications and prices will be released. Early birds will benefit from purchasing off plan by having the pick of all the available plots. It is a very exciting time for our business as interest in the site is high amongst retirees who already live in Dorchester, as well as from people who are looking to downsize to this popular destination from further afield. We encourage anyone who is interested to find out more to get in touch now.”

McCarthy Stone Retirement Living developments are designed to bring together a community of like-minded people desiring a premium lifestyle.

Exclusively for the over 60’s, Casterbridge Court will be made up of a mix of one and two-bed apartments, featuring spacious living areas, ample storage space and high specification kitchens and bathrooms. Some of the apartments at the development will even have their own balconies where homeowners can enjoy the peace and serenity of their own space. There will also be the opportunity for socialising with fellow homeowners, thanks to a cosy communal lounge, as well as wonderfully landscaped gardens.

The running of the development will be overseen by the House Manager, who will be available during office hours. For added peace of mind, there will be a 24-hour call system and a camera entry system at the communal front entrance.

A wealth of amenities sit on the doorstep of Casterbridge Court. Within a 15-minute walk residents can reach the local supermarket, medical centre, pharmacy, fitness centre and library, as well as various banks, shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Dorchester is also served by a great bus service, as well as two train stations.
