Community and Achieving Together are core values of McCarthy Stone, and our independent charitable Foundation has been supporting grassroots charities since December 2020, helping older people to feel valued, connected and engaged with their community. Since then, thanks to the generosity of our customers, colleagues and suppliers, plus the McCarthy Stone Group matching the amount raised, the Foundation has helped more than 400 local causes with over £850,000 of funding.
Along with financial grants, employee volunteering and community social projects for over 65s, the Foundation has also supported our homeowners efforts, doubling the impact of their support. At Orchid Court in Lytham St Anne’s, the homeowners got together to support Connect Community Choir, a local group bringing together older people through music and singing. Their coffee morning raised £688 that was matched by the Foundation for a total donation of £1,376, ensuring the group can continue to provide valuable opportunities for social connection.
In Southampton, homeowners at The Boathouse raised money for Caraway, a local charity where several of them regularly volunteer. Caraway work across the city to provide important support to older people living with dementia and their carers. With their efforts matched, the charity received £960 towards their rising costs, in addition to the £11,644 grant previously made to fund the opening of three new memory cafes and a course for carers.
The McCarthy Stone Foundation directly links our colleagues, customers and suppliers to our purpose to champion the role, wellbeing and happiness of older people in society. Together with the support of the McCarthy Stone Group, the Foundation continues to support hundreds of grassroots charitable causes every year, giving thousands of older people the connection and purpose that is so important to us all in later life.
