Mayor of Southampton, Councillor Peter Baillie, donned a hard hat last week to help break the ground at McCarthy Stone’s latest Retirement Living development on Anglesea Road in Shirley.

The VIP guest joined McCarthy Stone’s Marketing Executive Louise Daly, and Senior Site Manager John Howe, to take a closer look at development plans and mark the start of construction.

The new development will comprise a mix of 49 one and two-bed apartments exclusively designed for the over 60s. Apartments will be available to reserve off plan in spring 2020, with first occupations expected in autumn 2020.

Councillor Peter Baillie commented: “It was a pleasure to visit the site of McCarthy Stone’s new development in Shirley as construction is just about to get under way. It was a great opportunity to meet the site team, most of whom live in the area and are very conscious of being good neighbours during construction. I was pleased to discuss plans for helping those who move into the new homes to integrate into the village community and work with McCarthy Stone on supporting community projects.”

McCarthy Stone’s forthcoming Retirement Living development will provide everything homeowners could want for an active and fulfilled retirement. The shared lounge will be perfect for socialising with new neighbours, and homeowners will be able to make the most of the landscaped gardens knowing all the maintenance is taken care of. A House Manager will take care of the day-to-day running of the development, while secure entry systems and 24-hour emergency call points will provide added peace-of-mind.

Ciara Hilley, Divisional Marketing Manager at McCarthy Stone Southern, comments: “We were delighted to welcome Councillor Peter Baillie to our Shirley site.

“McCarthy Stone is committed to designing flexible homes which allow people to make the most of their retirement years, so it was great to be able to showcase the plans for some of the high quality apartments that will eventually be available at this new development in Shirley.”

Future homeowners will benefit from the development’s excellent location, which is within close proximity of a variety of local amenities, including a supermarket, several pubs and restaurant and a selection of national retailers and independent shops. Shirley also has great transport links to Southampton city centre, West Quay Shopping Centre, Salisbury and Romsey.

More than 90 percent of customers would recommend McCarthy Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the maximum Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation for 14 years’ running.  It is the only UK housebuilder of any size or type to achieve this accolade for 14 years, which is every year since the awards have been running.
