McCarthy Stone, the developer behind the Magpie Court Retirement Living Plus development in Hanham, Bristol, has given local Infant and Junior schools, Samuel White’s and Hanham Abbots, a welcome boost with a £500 donation.

The much-needed contribution has helped to fund a Scrapstore PlayPod, which aids in developing children’s imagination. The PlayPod provides a range of scrap materials, such as cardboard tubes, tyres and crates, and inspires children to release their creativity, as well as helping them socialise with their peers.

The donation for the Scrapstore PlayPod was organised by Friends of Samuel White’s and Hanham Primary Federation, which supports the two schools by holding a number of fundraising events, such as coffee mornings and film nights.

McCarthy Stone’s Sales Consultant at Magpie Court, Alison Peacock, presented a cheque for £500 to Sally Britton, Chairperson from Friends of Samuel White’s, Gabby Howells, Head Teacher at Samuel White’s Infant School, and Matthew Norcott, Head Teacher at Hanham Abbots Junior School.

Gabby Howells said: “We are very grateful to McCarthy Stone for its generous donation. We chose to install a Scrapstore PlayPod at our school as we wanted to take learning through interactive play out into the playground. The PlayPod will help children become more inventive and creative, which will in turn help them in later life, so we can’t thank the team at McCarthy Stone enough.”

Geoff Bates, Head of Marketing at McCarthy Stone South, added: “Here at McCarthy Stone, we appreciate our responsibilities go further than building high-quality retirement apartments - we also seek to create a positive legacy in the communities in which we build.

“The teams at Samuel White’s Infant and Hanham Abbots Junior Schools recognise the importance of encouraging all aspects of children’s development, so it was an absolute pleasure to present this donation. The team at McCarthy Stone’s Magpie Court development wishes the schools every success in the future.”

Comprising a selection of 53 one and two bedroom Retirement Living Plus apartments, exclusively designed for people aged 70 and over, Magpie Court provides everything retirees could want for a relaxing retirement.

Residents at Magpie Court benefit from having an Estates Management team on-site 24 hours a day, and tailored care packages and domestic support are also available for those who need a helping hand. A security entrance system and emergency call points provide added peace-of-mind for residents and their families.
