Centenary celebrations in Crowthorne for pilot and veteran John
Celebrations have been held at McCarthy Stone’s Birch Place as one of its most well-liked homeowners turned 100 years young.
John says, “I’m thrilled to be turning 100 – I can’t believe I made it! But having good genes, a clear conscience and four devoted daughters definitely helps!”.
John has lived at the Retirement Living Plus development in Berkshire for six years and celebrated his centenary with nearly 100 family and friends in the shared lounge.
Growing up in Norfolk, John joined the RAF in World War II, where he spent 10 years as a pilot and then continued his love of flying for the next 70 years, making frequent use of his private pilot’s licence.
John’s daughters had “so many grandchildren and great grandchildren that I’ve lost count!”. After enjoying 68 years of marriage to Frances, his best piece advice for his great-grandchildren and other young people is “If a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well. Always try your best and marry the right person!”.
