McCarthy Stone, the housebuilder behind The Boathouse Retirement Living development on Riverdene Place in Bitterne Park, has donated just over £500 to local community group, Friends of Riverside Park.
Friends of Riverside Park is a not-for-profit, voluntary group made up of local Southampton people who aim to improve the facilities and maintenance in Riverside Park. The donation by McCarthy Stone has been used to plant a series of fruit trees on the bank next to Cobden Bridge, which is opposite The Boathouse.
Martyn Thomas, Area Sales Manager from McCarthy Stone, presented the cheque to Dough Perry, Chairman of Friends of Riverside Park, alongside a number of volunteers.
Councillor David Fuller, Conservative Councillor for Bitterne Park, commented: “The Friends of Riverside Park do some fantastic work in maintaining and protecting the natural beauty and wildlife of the Park. I am delighted that McCarthy Stone chose to lend its support and make a donation to the team.”
Doug Perry from Friends of Riverside Park said: “We are dedicated to improving the physical and natural environment of the Park as much as we can. We rely on the generosity of our volunteer team, who provide the time to maintain it, as well as grants and donations from local businesses for much-needed improvements.
“The £500 we’ve received from McCarthy Stone is fantastic and we can’t thank the team at The Boathouse enough. The funds have enabled us to tidy up a previously neglected part of Riverside Park, which in turn helps us in our mission to make the Park a clean and safe place to be for the whole community.”
Geoff Bates, Head of Marketing for McCarthy Stone South, commented: “An important part of what we do here at McCarthy Stone is support initiatives in the towns and communities in which we build to help create a lasting, positive legacy.
“It was an absolute pleasure to present this donation to the Friends of Riverside Park. It really is a beautiful area, and that is testament to the dedication of the Friends team that work so hard to maintain it. All of us here at McCarthy Stone in Southampton wish them every success with their work.”
