The Mayor marks the start of construction work for Orchid Place
The Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Kevin Mitchell, took part in a special ceremony at the city’s newest Retirement Living community, Orchid Place-coming soon to Exeter, Devon.
The new retirement apartments are designed to meet the needs of local retirees who want to downsize – this in turn frees up much-needed housing stock in the area for first-time buyers and families.
The Mayor spoke to the McCarthy Stone team about the role these retirement homes will play in Exeter before putting a spade in the ground and laying one of the first bricks.
He said, “There is an urgent need for more specialist retirement homes not just in Exeter but across the region and up and down the country. Developers, such as McCarthy Stone, have an important role to play in meeting that burgeoning demand and ensuring people can continue to live independently in later life. This is an incredibly exciting time for Exeter and I look forward to watching the development’s progress.”
