Renting in retirement gives Peter and Jean exactly what they need
Both in their 80s, Peter and Jean agree it was a combination of common concerns that convinced them to sell up and make the move to Campbell House, a Retirement Living Plus community in Weybridge, Surrey.
Peter, a retired Doctor of Science who previously worked for the government, says “Before moving to Campbell House, we lived in a four-bedroom property with a garden, which was becoming increasingly difficult to maintain. On top of that, we were worried about having to keep going up and down the stairs, as they were quite steep.
“We decided to rent a two-bedroom apartment at Campbell House, as this would enable us to take advantage of the capital we released when we sold our previous home. This has meant we’ve been able to support our two sons and grandchildren financially.”
The convenient location was an important factor
Having lived in Weybridge for 25 years, Peter and Jean, were keen to stay in the local area.
“We’ve built our life here,” says Peter. “We have many friends who live locally, along with various facilities, such as a golf course and leisure centre for swimming, that we use and are within close distance of the development. It’s one of the main reasons we were first attracted to Campbell House, as it meant not having to sacrifice our social life. Not to mention the fact it has many fantastic facilities of its own, including a chef-run bistro and wellness suite.
“The development has been built to such a high standard, and the shared spaces throughout are excellent. Plus, the staff are exceptionally kind and caring. Living here truly suits us to a tee.”

The couple’s retirement rental allows them to live life to the full
With more time to do the things they enjoy doing most, Jean and Peter often spend their days exploring Weybridge.
“We enjoy getting out and about. For example, we often go to the local theatres and cinemas or pay a visit to one of the National Trust sites or RHS Gardens, with RHS Wisley and Claremont Landscape Gardens both nearby. We’re also active members of our local Catholic church, as well as the Catenians Association which offer activities such as trips to the theatres, regular lunches, and pub skittles.”
The thriving community at Campbell House also gives them lovely neighbours on doorstep. Peter adds, “The other homeowners here are a friendly bunch. They’re all very different, which means they each make great company.”
