McCarthy Stone, the UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities, has announced its new Retirement Living development on Great North Road in Hatfield has been named Highclere House in honour of the Hatfield Aircraft Company, De Havilland, which designed The Highclere biplane.

A British aviation manufacturer established in the late 1920’s, De Havilland Aircraft Company Limited was originally based in Edgware, but later moved its operations to Hatfield. Known for innovation, De Havilland created many important aircraft, including the Moth biplane, which revolutionised aviation in the 1920’s. The Highclere was a single 15-seater biplane built by De Havilland in Hatfield.

Simon Pendlebury, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy Stone North London, said: “We wanted to choose a name for our new Hatfield development that is not only meaningful, but would also resonate with local people and future McCarthy Stone homeowners. Our chosen name, Highclere House, will serve as a celebration of the De Havilland Aircraft Company, which made a huge contribution to the aviation industry in the early 20th century.”

A computer generated image of the McCarthy Stone development, which is currently under construction, has been released to show how Highclere House will look when complete. Comprising a collection of luxury Retirement Living apartments for the over 60s, Highclere House will offer retirees the opportunity to downsize and maintain an active, independent lifestyle, surrounded by like-minded individuals.

The development will feature a Club Lounge; ideal for socialising with friends; landscaped gardens in which to relax; and a comfortable Guest Suite, should homeowners have friends or relatives to stay.  A dedicated House Manager will take care of the day-to-day running of the development; while a secure entry system and 24-hour emergency call points will provide added peace-of-mind.

A Discovery Day will be held for Highclere House in February 2020, and first homeowners are expected in May 2020.

Located within close proximity of Hatfield Town and The Galleria Designer Outlet, future homeowners at Highclere House will have an abundance of amenities on their doorstep, whilst also only being a short distance away from the Capital.

More than 90% of customers would recommend McCarthy Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the maximum Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders’ Federation for 13 years running.  It is the only UK house builder of any size or type to achieve a Five Star award for every year of the HBF’s awards.
