McCarthy Stone, the housebuilder behind the new Retirement Living development on Flood Lane in Bridport, which is due to start construction this summer, has donated £200 to local history group, Bridport Heritage Forum.

The Heritage Forum is a group of local people from Bridport who work to raise awareness of the town’s heritage and remember those from the community who played a part in its history. Originally founded in 2002, the Heritage Forum hosts a series of events and displays throughout the year to celebrate Bridport’s legacy, including exhibitions, talks, school visits, food festivals, and many more.

The donation by McCarthy Stone will be used to extend the Forum’s work of commemorating World War II, by developing and extending display materials and resources for community projects, particularly schools.

Kate Patton, Sales Consultant from McCarthy Stone, presented the cheque to Shelia Meaney, Chairman of Bridport Heritage Forum, alongside several volunteers.

Sheila Meaney commented: “We are dedicated to promoting and protecting the heritage of Bridport, as well as honouring the people of Bridport who are an integral part of our history.

“The £200 we’ve received from McCarthy Stone is fantastic and will help us to preserve and save those memories of World War II, which is so important to us. We really can’t thank the team enough.”

Geoff Bates, Head of Marketing for McCarthy Stone South, said: “An important part of what we do here at McCarthy Stone is support initiatives in the towns and communities in which we build to help create a lasting, positive legacy.

“It was an absolute pleasure to present this donation to Bridport Heritage Forum. All of us here at McCarthy Stone wish them every success with their work.”
