Popular Pat had plenty of parties to toast her centenary
Celebrations were held at McCarthy Stone’s Caen Stone Court as one of its most well-liked homeowners turned 100. Pat has lived at the Retirement Living PLUS development in Arundel, West Sussex, for 14 years.
Pat said: “I have been thoroughly spoilt with so many parties, including one in a local pub with my family and friends from Caen Stone Court – and the Arundel Town Crier in attendance!
Pat’s advice for a long life? Keep fit, enjoy life and drink Merlot!
“Always live life to the full. I’ve always been fit and sporty, which is something that started in childhood. I was a member of The Spartan Ladies Athletics Club and became a National 3 As 75 yards hurdling champion (11.8 seconds) in 1938. Had it not been for the war there was a possibly I would have represented England in the Olympics.
As well as her athletic prowess, Pat, who was born in West London, trained as a secretary developing fantastic shorthand skills of 160 words a minute which she still uses today. She married a sailor in World War II and then went on to have a daughter, Julie. Among her friends and the team at Caen Stone Court, Pat is known for taking pride in her appearance, with never a hair out of place and red lipstick always to hand.
“I make sure I use day and night cream and as yet I have no wrinkles. Lastly, I treat myself to a daily glass or two of Merlot (or Baileys) and enjoy each and every day. Life is too short”.
