Things to do in Westgate-on-Sea, Kent

Opposite a green space in a quiet residential area close to the town centre, these retirement properties for sale in Westgate-on-Sea are perfectly placed for you to enjoy everything this sought-after seaside town has to offer.

This traditional Victorian town has quaint independent shops and two fantastic Blue Flag beaches: West bay and Mildred’s Bay, each with beachside cafes and pubs so you can enjoy the sea view in comfort.

Mildred’s Bay was used by seaplanes in the First World War but is now a family friendly sandy beach with beach huts, deckchairs and jet ski hire on offer. There are tennis courts and a putting green nearby, although if you are after a more serious golfing experience then the stunning clifftop course of Westgate and Birchington Golf Club is the one for you. There’s a popular cricket club too. Ramblers will enjoy the coastal paths – you can even walk (or cycle) to Margate in under an hour– although they are very regular bus and train services.

If you’re after a more relaxing day out, you can watch a film at the Carlton Cinema, browse the quirky shops and arcades or indulge yourself in the many cafes, bars and restaurants. There’s a strong community heart to Westgate-on-Sea too and a popular annual food festival, the Freewheelin’ Feastival, which offers tasty bites and entertainment for all ages.
