Affluent and leafy, Didsbury is one of the most aspirational suburbs of Manchester with most of its amenities found in Didsbury Village centre and West Didsbury. The latter is renowned for its independent shops and the numerous restaurants on Burton Road. Many of its retailers, like the Cheese Hamlet - a beautiful deli full of gourmet food and artisan cheese, Axons the butchers, Evans the fishmongers, Peter Wooley Printers and Morten's Bookshop, have been serving customers for generations. Marie Louise Gardens is a small, wooded park located amongst residential housing and often described as Didsbury's hidden gem. The Gardens which were acquired as a gift to the city of Manchester in 1904 are located in West Didsbury off Palatine Road. They were part of the gardens of Josephine Silkenstadt’s home and are of a simple shape, designed by prominent local civil engineer Joshua Cartwright. Comprising crossing pathways, edged with many rare and majestic trees they are a delight whatever the season.

There are many interesting botanical specimens including a maidenhair tree (ginkgo biloba).
